Why Experiences Win: What the National Conference Confirmed About the Future of Caravanning

We just got back from the Caravan Industry National Conference at RACV Royal Pines on the Gold Coast, and if you took the entire three days and squeezed it down to one sentence, it would be this:
People aren't buying holidays anymore. They're buying experiences.
That message came through loud and clear from every keynote, every panel, and every late-night conversation at the bar. Consumer trends expert Amanda Stevens delivered a session literally titled Radical Customer Obsession. The parks program ran a panel called Guest-centred Transformation: Improving the customer experience for better business results. Operators from one end of the country to the other were asking the same question — how do we give people something they'll actually remember?
It got us thinking about where Goldy Caravans fits into all of this, and honestly, the answer was right there in front of us the whole time.
The shift from "stuff" to "story"
A decade ago, a family holiday looked like a flight, a hotel buffet, and a hire car. Today, the people we talk to every week want something different. They want the freedom to chase a sunset they didn't plan for. They want their kids to remember a campfire, not a Wi-Fi password. They want the holiday itself to be the story, not just the backdrop for one.
Caravan parks have always sold this — they just didn't always call it "experience economy." Now the rest of the world has caught up, and the industry is leaning into it hard.
Where Goldy Caravans comes in...
Here's the part that hit home for us at the conference: a Goldy Caravan at a caravan park isn't just accommodation. It's the experience.
Think about what a custom-built Goldy actually delivers when it rolls into a holiday park:
A genuine adventure base — not a hotel room, not a cabin. A home on wheels that takes you wherever the road goes next.
The freedom to pick your view — beachfront one week, rainforest the next, outback after that.
Real connection — kids running between annexes, neighbours sharing the camp kitchen, that easy community you only get in a park.
Comfort without compromise — every Goldy is built to make the experience better, not just possible. Quality fit-out, smart layouts, and the kind of build that holds up after season three, not just season one.
The parks know this. The smart ones are investing in glamping, themed sites, family experiences, and partnerships with manufacturers like us because they understand that a great van on a great site multiplies the experience for everyone involved.
What this means for our customers
If you're thinking about a custom caravan build with us, here's what we want you to take from all of this:
You're not buying a box on wheels. You're buying every trip you'll take in it for the next fifteen years.
That's the lens we build through. Every layout decision, every material choice, every conversation we have at the Goldy workshop
is filtered through one question...
"What will this feel like at 4pm on day three of a trip the family will never forget?"
That's the experience. And from what we heard on the Gold Coast last week, the whole industry is finally talking about it the way we already build for it.
What's next
We came back from the conference with a notebook full of ideas, some great new partnerships brewing with parks around the country, and a renewed sense that the way we've been doing things at Goldy is exactly where the industry is heading.
If you've been thinking about a custom build for your family — or you want to chat about how your park or business could partner with us — get in touch. We're always up for a conversation about how to make the next trip the best one yet.
Safe travels, The Goldy Caravans Team
Goldy Caravans is an Australian-owned custom caravan manufacturer. Every van we build is designed around the way real families actually use them — because the trip matters more than the brochure.
